Mark commenced his legal career in April 2003 and became a partner in August 2006. He acquired the business from Clive in 2015. Mark works primarily in the fields of conveyancing, trusts, wills, estates, commercial law, relationship property, and enduring powers of attorney. Outside work he plays tennis and is a keen musician (bass and drums).
Simon commenced his legal career in 1984 working in several legal firms primarily in Auckland. In 2001 he and his family moved to Kaitaia and he set up his own practice. In June 2014 we welcomed Simon to Patterson Law as staff solicitor and subsequently has become a Director. He undertakes all types of Family Court work including care of children (including as Lawyer for the Child), domestic violence, adoptions, relationship property, employment issues and work related to the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988. Outside work Simon is a keen sports fan and enjoys beating Mark at golf.
Dinnel grew up in Kaitaia and attended Pompallier School followed by Kaitaia College. She graduated from Waikato University with first-class honours and has been practicing law since 2011 in Rotorua and then Tauranga. She joined the firm in 2022 when she relocated back to Kaitaia to be closer to family. Dinnel can help with many aspects of general law including Conveyancing, Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney, Estates, Relationship Property (Contracting Out Agreements or Relationship Property Settlement Agreements), purchasing into a retirement village and Commercial Law including business transactions and leases. She believes strongly in explaining matters in a way that clients can understand. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family and reading a good book.
Registered Legal Executiver
Samantha joined the firm in 2021 as a registered legal executive and has worked in law firms since 2007. Samantha’s area of work includes conveyancing, wills, enduring powers of attorney and estates. She grew up in the Far North and moved away once she finished her schooling but has since returned to the Far North to raise her children. Outside of work she is a mother of three who enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Amber now works in the Kaitaia office following the closure of the Mangonui office. Prior to working for Patterson Law, she worked for Robin Fountain for 6 years. She has worked in law firms since 1995 (apart from a 7 year break when she owned her own business). Amber’s area of work includes residential and commercial conveyancing, estates, wills, and enduring powers of attorney.
Loryn has worked in law firms since 1991 and joined the Patterson Law team in 2004. Primarily Loryn’s role is personal assistant to Mark Patterson. Loryn has experience in the drafting of all documents to complete residential and commercial conveyancing transactions, together with drafting and typing documents such as wills, enduring powers of attorney, deeds and Probate applications. Loryn is e-dealing capable and has knowledge and experience in the day-to-day running of our trust account.
Trust Account Administrator
Carol has worked for Clive and subsequently Patterson Law since 1990 and is the firm’s trust account administrator. She deals with the day to day running of the trust account which includes receipt and payment of client funds and term deposits, completing settlements etc. She also deals with the day to day running of the firm’s office accounts including reconciling, GST and the payroll. Carol is a primary contact for LINZ and assists solicitors and legal executives with all aspects of the e-dealing process. Carol is involved with all aspects of AML/CFT requirements and reporting.
Brenda rejoined the team in November 2023 as a Legal Secretary assisting Dinnel Bailey-Gordon and Samantha Holdsworth in all legal matters. She was born and raised in the Far North and outside of work, Brenda enjoys spending time with her partner Rob and two boys, fishing and reading a good book.
Nikki joined the firm in October 2013 as a part-time legal secretary. She has worked in law since 1988 – initially in Kaitaia for 8 years and then Auckland for 17 years, most recently working as PA to a Barrister. Nikki works as PA to Simon Punshon.
